Writing and Editing – the Processes that Go Together
It is true that writing and editing are the words that should go together. Good piece of writing and editing are interrelated processes. The first is actually impossible without the latter. You have to take it as an axiom.
To tell the truth, both writing and editing are equally challenging. Each process has its peculiarities and difficulties. In this article we are going to talk about the correct editing of your piece of writing. More often the students do not hire a professional editor and do the editing on their own. So, definitely some rules will not be out of place.
It is better to do the editing a few days after completing your work. You have to look at your writing with a fresh eye.
First, read the whole work and think of the impression it makes. Let someone else to read it. Define the points that seem imperfect to you.
Now, let us discuss some corrections that can be made in your paper.
If you do not like the language of your work, use synonyms. Synonyms not only can remove some frequently used words in your paper. Sometimes you can just find a better word for describing something.
Your work can be improved with metaphors and similes. These figures of speech can also fit perfectly some descriptions used in the paper.
Check the word order of your sentences. Sometimes you do not notice it, but the incorrect places of the nouns or adjectives in the sentences can spoil considerably the whole sound.
So, these are several rules, which will help you to edit your work successfully.
