Writing and Editing – the Processes that Go Together

It is true that writing and editing are the words that should go together. Good piece of writing and editing are interrelated processes. The first is actually impossible without the latter. You have to take it as an axiom.

To tell the truth, both writing and editing are equally challenging. Each process has its peculiarities and difficulties. In this article we are going to talk about the correct editing of your piece of writing. More often the students do not hire a professional editor and do the editing on their own. So, definitely some rules will not be out of place.

It is better to do the editing a few days after completing your work. You have to look at your writing with a fresh eye.

First, read the whole work and think of the impression it makes. Let someone else to read it. Define the points that seem imperfect to you.

Now, let us discuss some corrections that can be made in your paper.

If you do not like the language of your work, use synonyms. Synonyms not only can remove some frequently used words in your paper. Sometimes you can just find a better word for describing something.

Your work can be improved with metaphors and similes. These figures of speech can also fit perfectly some descriptions used in the paper.

Check the word order of your sentences. Sometimes you do not notice it, but the incorrect places of the nouns or adjectives in the sentences can spoil considerably the whole sound.

So, these are several rules, which will help you to edit your work successfully.

Writing, Editing and Time

This article raises up such interesting problem as writing and editing struggle. What is of greater importance: writing or editing? Weather it is possible to substitute writing for editing or vice versa?

It is a very interesting question for our discussion. Is it possible to make editing without writing, or present writing without thorough editing? I think it is impossible. In order to present a fulfilled piece of work you should not only write but also edit it.

You know, all we need sometimes a kind of support. The best support for writing is editing. You should not deprive them each other.

When you start writing your paper, you think about the ideas, you want to present there, and about the way, you do it. You do not have enough time in order to think about the mistakes and do not pay attention how you write and how many mistakes you make. It is necessary to divide your time in such way that at the end you have some time to re-read your paper and work with the mistakes.

You see the work, you analyze everything you have written and you have a chance to improve your writing by the elimination of the mistakes.

Your writing cannot be perfect without editing, and editing does not have any sense without writing. The thing that unites writing and editing is time. Only if you have enough time your work will be perfect.

Writing and Editing: General facts

Writing and editing are to acts which cannot be considered separately. You cannot write a good paper without editing it, and you cannot edit a paper if you have not written it.

Of course, the writing goes the first. You get or choose a topic of your paper, and start working on it. Firstly, you plan it and collect the material which should help you to compose an excellent paper. After it, you set to write you paper. Step by step, you write each part of it, and link them, so that your paper would be integral.

And then comes the turn of the editing. You read what you have written, and correct what is wrong. Editing presupposes not correcting the mistakes only. You should also re-write the pieces which are weak, or which do not fit the paper’s manner.

There should be some pause between the writing and editing. You will edit your paper much better if you have some rest after finishing to write it. However, it is not acceptable to make a very big pause between the two acts. And, of course, you should never forget of editing the paper, as it will damage the quality of the whole writing.

So, we recommend you to regard the writing and editing as the integral acts, which cannot be separated. If you treat them in such a manner, you will never feel like omit one of them. And it is very important not to do it if you want to attain a brilliant result.

Writing and Editing: Two Lovers

Is the title strange for you? Rather, I would say! Still, it is true indeed! Do you need my explanations? I guess you do. Well, I will try to explain it to you.

Writing and editing cannot live without each other. Together they create a kind of harmony, that is called love. Still, like any other phenomena of our world, this harmony of writing and editing should be created by somebody. Who is that “somebody”? Can you guess it? It is not that difficult indeed. It is you. You are a creator of harmony and love between writing and editing.

Do you like movies with the happy end? If you are not that cruel, you should. It is the same with your writing and editing. If you make them live in harmony and love in the paper you are writing, you will succeed, and everyone will certainly appreciate your creation.

However, like any other kind of creation, your love and harmony should be created according to a certain plan. I think, you have already got what kind of plan I am hinting on. You should make a plan of your actions in order to make your creation successfully. It will be a framework, a steady basis where love and harmony will be living. Then step by step, brick by brick, like any other love affair is being made, you will be building up your creation.

Finally, you will create a paper that would become an object of public appreciation, be sure about it!
