Writing or editing: What is more important?

Writing and editing… These are really important components of a good paper. But sometimes you have too little time to perform both of them. And then the time to decide comes. What to decide? Decide what is more important of the two: writing or editing.

As you are short of time, you need to choose only one. And, of course, it can be only… writing.

Why writing if we always claim that editing cannot be avoided? It is obviously. How can you edit a paper if you have not written it? You cannot, of course. So, you cannot but prefer writing to editing in such a difficult situation.

However, there is another solution. You can try and finished writing faster. Then you will have time for editing your paper.

Unfortunately, this solution fits only experienced writers, or students who are quite skillful. If a person whose skills are not enough for writing a good paper fast will try to do it, it is certain that he or she will fail to cope with it well. Then, as the time still will press, you will try to edit a paper fast. It will result in quite a poor paper, because it is hard to edit an awful writing fast. Finally, you will waste a lot of efforts in vain.

So, if you are not experienced enough, you had better refused from editing a paper in order to devote more time to writing it. It will guarantee you at least a satisfactory result. And, who knows, may be you will eventually manage to prepare quite a good paper even without editing it.
